Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has increased in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of entrants can get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same concept in nearly all poker games.
The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
It may seem complicated initially, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an amazing assortment of betting options and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high hand, and many battling for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
