Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he enjoyed gambling on various card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these particular card games as he was playing his father. After finishing secondary school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York City to compete in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were rough as he would play extensive hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some additional cash by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could better his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and focus even more on poker.
The actual advancement in his abilities began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would frequently compete against one another. He was able to access several of the greatest players in chess. With their help, he would sharpen his cunning thinking abilities. Howard used these strategy ideas in the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.
He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master poker. Annie was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. He told Annie to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the greatest female players the poker world today. He headed to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the subsequent decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
