Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he loved gambling on different card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really competitive in these particular card games while playing his father. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a bit and moved away to New York City to play some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were tough as he played countless hours and fail to win most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he might improve his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to acquire more sleep and focus attention even more on the game.
The actual advancement in his game happened when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would frequently wager against each other. He was able to access some of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, he would hone his logical thinking abilities. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of NL Texas Holdem.
He also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a great student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct choice. He told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker arena today. Howard Lederer headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the following 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
